What People Are Saying

“Mary supported me through a very difficult period in my life. After 38 years, my marriage was ending.  Life as I had known it would be much different. Mary is grounded in truth, easy to talk to, warm, caring, and never judgmental.  She was there for me through the different stages of grief.  She always listened and encouraged me; she was my sounding board, helped give me clarity, and a new perspective. I would definitely encourage anyone who is going through a life change to talk with Mary.”

“When I first came to Mary Norcross, I was having difficulties navigating the job market during the pandemic. I was not receiving call-backs for interviews. She helped me build a resume that was both informative and functional. Additionally, Mary taught me how to communicate more effectively online with potential employers to avoid getting lost in the vastness of online applications. Mary also helped me narrow down my career search and deduce what I really wanted out of a career. As a result, I got hired as a project manager/coordinator within a couple of months. Not only am I making more money, I am also learning new skills every day at work that will help me in the future. Mary’s encouragement along my journey and genuine concern helped me keep a positive mindset which ultimately resulted in me meeting my goals. I cannot wait to see where this new path takes me!”

“Mary was a phenomenal leader when leading our team at Shepherd’s Gate as the Director! She led our team with such wisdom and grace and knew exactly what was needed in each moment. She continues to be a great mentor, coach, advocate, and source of encouragement in my own life. She has helped develop skills that have positively impacted my life and my work. Not only have these skills helped me in my own journey, but they have also positively impacted other lives as well. I would not be where I am professionally without her support and guidance. Many others will reap the benefits of her coaching, as she wholeheartedly invests in people and does it from a true place of sincerity.”

I began working with Mary in January 2022, and at the time of writing this, it’s the last week in September. It is not an overstatement to say that she has helped me identify and experience renewed purpose and excitement in my life, work, and relationships.

In 2021, I was worn out from what seemed like five years of substantial change. My children both left for college, both my parents passed, and my fitness and social life reflected 2 years of at home isolation. I had stopped teaching, and while I loved it, I knew I wasn't going to do it again until and unless I find a position and building that I am excited about, where teachers are respected and the workload is reasonable. I knew I needed to get my happy, productive self back. I also knew that going back to some old type of normal was impossible.

Though I knew I wasn't operating at peak mental health, I also am in my 50s and I didn't think these issues were going to be resolved in therapy. These were functional problems, stemming for normal human transitions. I needed to learn new ways to navigate my new life, in a practical, constructive way. I needed to learn to put myself back at the center of my life, after decades of children and parents taking center stage.

I started working with Mary as an anxious blank slate, not knowing where to begin or how the process would go. But, Mary is a complete pro, and any nerves were dispelled. She listens amazingly closely, and offer insights and ideas, as well as helping me move to forming brand new goals. "I don't know what to do", has become "there's so much I am excited to do!"

Working with her, we identified three areas to prioritize, and some side "quests" so to speak. We meet three times each month, and with her support, I am getting into shape, working in a novel and picture book, volunteering, improving my friendships, and taking more time for quality time with my husband. I am considering what other ways I can increase joy and satisfaction in life, as the new habits of mind are taking hold.

If it sounds like she's a miracle worker, that's because she is. Of course, as a client, there are responsibilities. I have to do the things, and listen with an open mind when Mary notices something in what I say.... and that isn't always easy.

Action and change are hard. There have been setbacks and the journey has sometimes been emotional. But, I feel like I am learning to be a better me. If I struggle, I stop and think, “What would Mary say?”

If you have a chance to work with Mary Norcross--with an open and positive mindset, and if you listen to her half as well as she listens to you--you will not regret working with her! Best investment I have made in years!”
